Ep. 31: Mike McCorkle

As we continue to barrel through the end of the year in an unrelenting spike in COVID cases during the pandemic and Congress prepares to break for recess with no economic relief for Americans in sight, all eyes remain on Georgia as we approach Election Day in the state’s runoff elections for two U.S. Senate seats. A lot is on the line in these two elections for Georgians as well as all Americans, seeing that these races will determine which party maintains control of the Senate. On top of that, the state of Texas has filed a “long-shot lawsuit” against the state of Georgia. At this point, it’s nearly impossible to not feel exhausted by the whole damn thing.

Today, Aja is joined by attorney, DNC member, and co-founder of the Colorado Working Families Party Mike McCorkle to discuss the movement for the People’s Party — the new political party that no one is talking about. The party filed its papers registering as a party in Maine on Dec. 1, with plans to file in all 50 states over the next 12 months. McCorkle shares his experience and work within the Democratic Party, his work with progressives and founding the Working Families Party chapter in Colorado, and what the next steps are in the movement for the People’s Party. McCorkle also lends his legal opinion regarding the lawsuit filed against Georgia by the state of Texas.
